Alex Matschiner is a solutions- and results-driven biotech executive with over 25 years of experience in biologics drug development across large public biopharma companies and emerging start-ups. He brings a comprehensive scientific, technical, and operational background spanning downstream process development, scale-up, technology transfer, pilot production through commercial scale GMP manufacturing, CMC project and CDMO alliance management, CMC regulatory support, as well as bioprocess engineering.
Currently he works as Principal Consultant at AMvance Consulting where he focuses on early-stage biopharma programs. . Most recently, he worked at Hibiscus Bioventures as VP of CMC, where he led CMC technical due diligence for new biologics programs — including antibody, cell, and gene therapies — and guided early-phase CMC development. On a contract basis, he also acted as VP of CMC for Regio Biosciences, overseeing technology transfer and CDMO selection and alliance management for an antibody therapy licensed from AstraZeneca.
Previously, Alex was Vice President of Protein Process Development and Manufacturing at NexImmune, Inc., as well as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. In this role, he established the company’s process development, manufacturing, and analytical CMC infrastructure, while managing the protein reagent supply chain for multiple pre- and early-stage clinical programs.
In 2004, Alex co-founded BioFactura, Inc., serving as COO and CFO while leading downstream and analytical development for internal and client projects. He also held senior technical and managerial roles at AstraZeneca/MedImmune, Human Genome Sciences (now GSK), and as a consultant supporting U.S. government (DoD) and early-stage biotech initiatives.
Alex holds a Master of Science degree in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from the University of Iowa.
