Byron Wade is a seasoned healthcare leader with over 20 years of combined clinical and administrative experience across government, nonprofit, and for-profit health systems nationwide. His diverse background spans prehospital, outpatient, inpatient, and surgical settings, and he founded the largest hospital-owned locum tenens company in the U.S.
Currently, Byron is a consultant with American Healthcare Strategies, a firm specializing in strategic planning, operational excellence, and market positioning for companies in the healthcare sector. He partners with hospitals, health systems, ambulatory surgical centers, and healthcare vendors to navigate the complexities of today’s evolving healthcare landscape. Previously, he led systemwide strategy, physician recruitment, and operations for UPMC, the largest integrated healthcare delivery system in the U.S.
Beyond his professional achievements, Byron brings a deeply personal perspective to healthcare. In March 2023, he underwent a life-changing kidney transplant, with his wife, Melissa, as his donor. This experience inspired them to establish the Wade Family Foundation, dedicated to supporting individuals with IgA Nephropathy, raising awareness about kidney disease and transplantation, and advancing living donor initiatives. The foundation’s work bridges Byron’s professional healthcare expertise with his lived experience as a patient, informing his approach to healthcare strategy and patient-centered care delivery.
Byron’s unique combination of executive leadership, past clinical experience, and personal healthcare journey enables him to provide insights that resonate with both healthcare professionals and the patients they serve.
