Martin Gilligan

Healthcare Commercial & Operational Leadership

Martin Gilligan is a senior executive with over 30 years of broad experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. His success has been grounded in applying “big pharma” rigor with emerging pharma flexibility and simplicity. Martin’s career has spanned both large and start-up biopharmaceutical companies; and has thrived during industry change, including leadership and growth through six acquisitions. His commercial lifecycle leadership ranges from business development, early product development, launch, to brand maturity; including market access, pricing, reimbursement, and direct-to-consumer.

Martin was Chief Commercial Officer at Phathom Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: PHAT) where he set the commercial strategy and built an organization of 375+ FTEs. Notable success includes fast launch uptake in demand attributed to aggressive launch strategies and timely payer reimbursement coverage. In addition, Martin represented the company to financial analysts and investors, presenting at top-tier healthcare conferences. He played a key role in three follow-on public offerings, collectively valued at $370M, and a $300M revenue interest financing agreement in non-dilutive capital.

Martin previously served as Corporate Vice President of Celgene’s Inflammation and Immunology Franchise, where he held a leadership role in the $13.4 billion divestiture and separation of Otezla from Celgene to Amgen. Martin’s leadership of the commercial function generated $2+ billion in sales and progressed a portfolio of ten products in clinical development.
By learning and thriving in different corporate cultures, Martin’s expertise is to adapt business strategy to unique markets and situations, and the ability to lead through complex situations. In his career, he has executed seven product launches within and outside of the U.S.

Martin received a bachelor’s degree from Providence College and an MBA from Rutgers University Executive Education. He has held advisory positions in several non-profit organizations.
