Sumner brings over 21 years of experience in strategy, design, and evolution of specialty therapeutic commercialization and innovations that accelerate patient access to medicine. He has led teams through more than 35 new biologics launches and indication expansions across multiple therapeutic areas with a key focus on the customer experience. His experience spans both the supplier and biopharmaceutical manufacturer sides. Sumner and is a thought leader in patient access, reimbursement, and affordability strategy and speaks regularly at health industry conferences.
He was most recently the Executive Director, US Patient Support at AstraZeneca where he led the strategy and execution of the end-to-end patient and provider access, affordability, field reimbursement, and nurse programs for the AstraZeneca portfolio of medicines across the oncology, cardiovascular, renal & metabolic, and respiratory & immunology therapeutic areas. Prior to AstraZeneca, Sumner served in various operations, strategy, and business development roles at Covance Market Access Services Inc for 11 years.
Sumner holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from Hampton University. He enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and spending quality time with his wife and three children.
